Emory Eye Center Faculty To Present at Foundation Fighting Blindness Seminar

Four Emory Eye Center faculty members will present information on retinal diseases and treatments at a Foundation Fighting Blindness half-day seminar on Saturday, March 29, in Atlanta. The event is free and open to the public. "Macular Degeneration, RP and Related Diseases" will focus on treatments and therapies, research advances and low vision resources to help in day-to-day activities.

WHEN: Saturday, March 29, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

WHERE: The Westin Peachtree Plaza, 210 Peachtree St., NW

WHAT:
Jiong Yan, MD, and Sunil Srivastava, MD, both retina specialists at Emory Eye Center, will present information on current treatment strategies, emerging new therapies and clinical trials on age-related macular degeneration.

Eye Center researcher Jeffrey Boatright, PhD, will present information on current research into blinding eye diseases and what's on the horizon. Dr. Boatright's research focuses on neuro-protectants in the treatment of retinal degenerations.

Susan Primo, OD, MPH, FAAO, will offer information on dealing with visual impairment due to retina degenerations. An expert in low vision, she will provide insight into the many ways low vision patients can be helped with new technological devices as well as simple fixes around the home.

The seminar is free and a continental breakfast will be provided. Valet parking is available (all-day fee is $23); self-parking (all day fee is $18). The Westin Hotel is located one block for the MARTA "Peachtree Center" stop. The event is supported by a grant from Genentech.
